Do You Have a Clean Water Utility of the Future?

Change is happening within the public works industry. Namely within the wastewater or now called the clean water industry. A group lead by National Association of Clean Water Agencies (NACWA), the Water Environment Research Foundation (WERF) and the Water Environment Federation (WEF) have collaborated on the most progressive action plan since the Clean Water Act of the 1970’s. It is called the Water Resources Utility of the Future . . . Blueprint for Action (UOTF). Work on the blueprint began a year ago and was lead by the efforts of a joint Steering Committee made up of three representatives from each of the three organizations as well as a group of 49 industry experts representing a broad cross- section from the three organizations’ memberships.

The goal of this progressive document is two-fold, first it was finalized for the 113th Congress and incoming Administration to assist them in developing their environmental priorities and secondly, it was designed to assist local utility managers, private sector interests, state and local governments, and many others within the clean water, drinking water, energy and agricultural communities.

I am sure that anyone that takes the time to review this timely and well-written document will clearly see the environmental and fiscal benefit of the UOTF. Getting there and implementing the goals of the UOTF for your utility can be accomplished but it will take some work.

If you would like Municipal Operations Excellence (MOE) to assist you in developing a customized roadmap and implementation strategy to become a Utility of the Future (UOTF) please contact us.
